How to Deploy an Oracle Cloud Server Instance

Sign in to Oracle Cloud after creating an account.

Select the navigation icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

Navigate to Compute and select Instances.

Select the Create Instance button.

For Image and shape, select Edit.

Select the Change Image button.

For Image name, select Canonical Ubuntu.

For OS version, select 20.04.

Select the Select Image button.

For Shape, select a pricing plan.

For Networking, select Edit.

Select Show advanced options.

For Launch Options, select Paravirtualized networking.

For Add SSH keys, select Paste public keys.

Open the system terminal application or command prompt.

Type this command and press Enter until the process completes.

ssh-keygen

The command output will show the file paths to use for private id_rsa and public id_rsa.pub SSH keys.

Your identification has been saved in FULL_PATH/.ssh/id_rsa. Your public key has been saved in /FULL_PATH/.ssh/id_rsa.pub.

Type this command and press Enter until the process completes.

ssh-keygen -y

Copy the public key output to the clipboard.

ssh-rsa PUBLIC_KEY

Go to Oracle Cloud.

For SSH keys, paste the public key.

Finish creating the instance by selecting the Create button.

Select the navigation icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

Navigate to Networking and select Virtual Cloud Networks.

Select the VCN Name with the format vcn-xxxxxxxx-xxxx.

For Resources select Security Lists.

Select Default Security List for vcn-xxxxxxxx-xxxx.

Select the Add Ingress Rules button.

Select STATELESS.

For SOURCE TYPE select CIDR.

For SOURCE CIDR type 0.0.0.0/0.

For IP PROTOCOL select All Protocols.

Select the Add Ingress Rules button.

Select the navigation icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

Navigate to Compute and select Instances.

Select the Instance Name with the format instance-xxxxxxxx-xxxx.

Copy the Public IP Address to use during the installation processes.

Type this SSH command, but with the actual id_rsa file path from ssh-keygen, and username with the public IP address from the compute instance details.

ssh -i ~/./ssh/id_rsa ubuntu@PUBLIC_IP_ADDRESS

Press Enter.

The command line will ask the following question.

Are you sure you want to continue connecting?

Type yes and press Enter to connect to the server.
